Trailblazing, one practice at a time

Allow me to share a few words that may contribute towards your continued excellence this semester and beyond.
I'm a big fan of martial arts training, especially because of the continued discipline inherently required. As the saying goes, 'With discipline comes freedom'. I have a lot of respect for the dedicated and deliberate practice it takes to hone a craft. For ten years I had an opportunity to study and learn (with great intensity) the art of Capoeira.
A very strong inspiration for me was the very first women in one particular style of Capoiera who became a Mestre (Grand Master) - Mestre Lima. Through Mestre Lima's dedicated practice every day, expertise emerged and trailblazing took place. Now an incredible leader in the field.
When I think of anyone who has applied discipline consistently the below often comes to mind:
"I fear not the person who knows 10,000 kicks, but the person who has practiced one kick, 10,000 times."
Bruce Lee said that and lived by it. The result? The creation of a new martial art.
So as you rock it this semester and beyond, remember your fundamentals everyday have power to them. Every time you put in the work you are trailblazing, honing your craft and becoming leaders in your field.
Imagine the possibilities that will arise by practicing one day at a time, one hour at a time, one reading at a time, one (fill in the blank) and more.
Imagine the growth that will occur from repeating that ‘10,000 times’...and more.
You have so much potential to discover... ‘one practice at a time’.
Trailblazing is yours for the taking.
