Courageous conversations

I once taught a student who was really struggling to become more confident.

He shared how he was seeking to ‘emerge’ so to speak and find his voice when in group work.

When we held group sessions he was quiet and did not openly share too much.

What was tremendous was that he had the courage to call it.

We took a walk one day after class and the conversation focused on the importance not so much of trying to compare or be better than others but rather to face that fear that we experience inside.

He likened the fear to a lion he needed to take on...

“The lion who breaks the enemy’s ranks is a minor hero compared to the lion who overcomes himself.” (Rumi)

In the weeks ahead he started to share and engage more.

The mere act of engaging someone on his fear and how to overcome it was a step in the right direction.

Who could you have a chat with this week to either support or receive support from?

There is no need to go it alone.

Have a conversation with someone. It can help.
